Our world is full of needy people.
Sadly, even though the majority of these needy people want something that will cost you nothing but a little time, very few of them will receive it.
What they want is your friendship, your time and your encouragement.
Why don’t they get it?
There are several reasons. One reason is time. Everyone is busy today. Families have work and school and sports and other activities. They have to schedule time to spend with their own family so how could they find time for anyone else?
However, from there the reasons run the gamut from family dynamics to distance to not having anything in common.
But there is another reason and it is the most heart-breaking. This reason is actually the person in question, or rather, their approach to asking for what they need.
This person is very needy and they show it, in the way they talk, the way they smile and the way they hang on your every word.
They need your attention, and in trying to attain that attention, they go a little overboard. They cling too much, they talk too much and their smile is just a little too big, a little to nervous.
Almost everyone’s reaction to this behavior is to move away, make some excuse and head in the opposite direction as quickly as possible. This may be the natural human reaction but, it is not the response they need and it will only further cement the feelings of inadequacy that cause their behaviors in the first place.
We as followers of Jesus Christ have a responsibility to these people just as much as we do the homeless and the hungry. And these people, in their own way, are usually without a home (family, friends, love, etc…) and they are hungry, for love and attention.
If we desire to walk in Jesus’ footsteps, we have a duty to try and fill these needs as well.
May God bless you this day and all the days of your life.
